Patient Spotlight
We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting a few of our patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing patients below!
Everlee T.
Sweet Everlee is five years old and has been in therapy for approximately two years. She has learned how to speak slowly and enunciate her words. Everlee doesn’t get frustrated anymore when trying to explain things to family or friends and loves to order her own meals at restaurants! Miss Maddie loves to talk with Everlee because she loves to talk to Miss Maddie! “She is always down for any activity that involves coloring or crafts. I love when she makes me pictures to hang up in my office!” Thank you for all of your hard work, Everlee!
Blade T.
Blade is an awesome three year old who has been in therapy for approximately two years! He’s made so much progress in that time and we are so proud of him! Blade can talk in complete sentences and doesn’t get as frustrated when trying to explain himself or when he needs something. Blade plays well with others and communicates with other children. His caregiver wants everyone to know that he has a strong love for dinosaurs and farm animals. He also loves music, video games, and playing with his older brother! Miss Maddie also sees Blade and has had a fantastic time with him over the past two years. “I love that he comes in ready to work hard. His imagination is so great!” She echoes his love for dinosaurs and is so grateful he always brings a different dino to incorporate into the sessions. Thank you for keeping us on our toes, Blade!
Liam H.
Liam is the son of our owners, Kent and Emily Hathaway, so buckle up! He’s eleven years old and has been in therapy a total of nine years. In that time, he’s had so many accomplishments and worked with multiple different therapists. Lately, some of his parents’ favorite accomplishments are that he’s started to tell jokes; he’s telling others how he’s feeling; asking and answering questions; and telling things about his day! He’s also starting to interact with his friends at social groups. Mr. Michael started working on negotiating and protesting appropriately, and you’d think teaching to talk back would be discouraged, but according to Liam’s mom, “I never thought we would be glad our kid can debate with us and tell us, ‘No thank you,’ but we’re so glad he has the ability to express his opinions! We’re continually amazed at Liam’s accomplishments during his journey.” All of Liam’s therapists agree: Liam is the coolest. He loves Disney Pixar and Mario and can have entire conversations in movie quotes. From his caregiver: “He loves playing with his siblings, dancing, singing, and swimming. He knows everyone at Speech Pathway by name and loves coming each week for speech, ABA, and social groups!” Liam’s therapists are Miss Emily, Miss Whitney, and Mr. Michael. They all love his personality, his imagination, his giggle, and how he’s always down to eat some Oreos. It was hard for all of them to summarize just a few things they love about this awesome kid. Miss Emily loves when he’s in a silly mood, when he tells his favorite jokes multiple times, and when he says “I lava you” for “I love you”. Miss Whitney is a big fan of his all-caps text messages, his poses, and his beautiful singing voice (unless his mom asks him to sing). Liam chooses one thing to remember about every person he loves and whenever he hasn’t seen them, he brings it up and talks to them about it. Liam is such a special person, and everyone at Speech Pathway has been so lucky to watch him grow throughout his journey: from his diagnosis, to IEP meetings, to the incredible kid he is today. Thank you for letting us in on your journey, Liam!

Spot?
We’re glad you asked! Speech Spot is an intensive week of therapy. For children 4 and up, we offer at least one individual intervention session per day. If you’re looking to take advantage of the summer vacation to advance your child’s speech and language skills, this is the PERFECT opportunity! Our highly trained staff knows how to target speech and language development while also having summer FUN. This would be fantastic for patients who no longer need the intensity of Intense Academy, but aren’t yet ready for Kid Connect. Talk with your therapist about whether Speech Spot would be a good fit for your child! If you’re interested, head over to our Speech Spot page to check out the times and enroll!
Piece Walk 2023
We’re so excited to announce our Piece Walk shirt for 2023: SEUSS! Our sources are working on pricing and availability now, but keep an eye out for the order form in the coming months! If you haven’t heard of the Piece Walk, it’s an incredible event each year to raise awareness for autism spectrum disorder. It consists of a resource fair (with a LOT of free stuff), community-building, and a walk! The event is scheduled for 6:30pm on Saturday, June 3rd at Scissortail Park. Sign up to join us or support from afar!
New Building UPDATE!
Here’s the latest update:
Some of our staff took a visit to the new building to see the grandeur that is going to be approximately 8,000 square feet of therapy space, family-centered care, and FUN! We have a beautiful sign on our building, which means the day is getting closer and closer! This new building means so much to us, as it’s a culmination of Emily’s efforts starting in 2012 when she opened Speech Pathway to serve the Oklahoma City area. Did you know Speech Pathway started in an attic that was approximately 100 square feet? And now take a look at us! With over 30 employees providing the best care Oklahoma City has to offer, it’s no wonder why our patient numbers continue to climb! We’re so excited for what’s to come! We will be CLOSED on April 3, 2023 so that we can get settled into our new space. Speech Pathway of the future: coming April 4, 2023!

Spring Home Practice Ideas
- Get outside! The weather is warming up, which means it’s time to enjoy the sunshine to work on speech and language skills! Gather up your chalk or do some water play outside to work on your goals with your child.
- Planning some spring break travel? Here are some ideas to help:
- If your mode of travel is novel to your child, you may consider incorporating a social story into your preparation for travel. A social story is picture scenes or a home-made video with emphasis on a social situation to provide your child with exposure to the scene prior to their experience. This can look like your child going through the motions (practicing going through airport security and boarding a plane -film it; practicing where they will be seated on a long car ride (take pictures or film it); going to a hotel and walking through check in and using the elevator (take pictures or film it); or looking at the website of your destination beforehand!
- Bring activities with you to incorporate language! Water Wow books, puffy stickers, wikki stix, and suction cup toys are all fun options.
- Bring an old calculator and your child can “purchase” items that you find on vacation. The calculator can act as a cash register to talk about all the items and toys you all have from your trip!
- If you’re looking to purchase small new toys, place them in eggs for your child to open each hour. They can request, comment, work on colors, say their target sound 5 times before receiving the egg, and talk about what is inside.
- String Cheerios or Fruit Loops on a pipe cleaner! While working on language through counting, color recognition, big and small, requesting, commenting, and trials of your child’s target sound, you can also get a little work on fine motor skills!
- Write on Post-It notes and have your child stick them around the car or their airplane seat. You can work on target sounds, requesting, or commenting! The clean up is easy and the activity is fun to cover as much area as possible!
