Patient Spotlight

We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting a few of our patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing patients below!

Elliott E.

Elliott is a four year old who has taken life by storm! He’s been in therapy for two and a half years and has grown so much! “When Elliott first started speech, he could say maybe 5 words intelligibly. Now, he can say anything he wants to say and be understood by others most of the time! His vocabulary has skyrocketed and he goes about his day describing everything he sees and does in detail! He has also made great strides with social skills, like learning how to interact with others and participate in group activities. His speech sessions with Ms. Kylie and two years of Intense Academy have been the keys to him making such incredible progress toward successful communication! We are so grateful for Ms. Kylie and Speech Pathway for helping him find and use his voice so well!” We couldn’t agree more, Mom! We love getting to watch Elliott be amazing and transition to his role of big brother to his three month old sister, Lizzie. His sense of creativity, humor, and joy are the best parts about him. Miss Kylie has gotten to work with Elliott for a while now and she adores him. “Elliott is a loveable, smiley, firecracker! He always comes into the building with a smile on his face, and unmatchable energy! He has come so far during his time at Speech Pathway and we love him and his family so much!” You rule, Elliott!

Graham K.

Graham is four and a half years old (don’t forget the half) and has spent two years in therapy. He’s made amazing progress and is now requesting functional needs like foods, drinks, and other requests without his caregivers anticipating his needs. His caregiver loves that Graham is able to express with words why he’s upset or frustrated. “Since being diagnosed with Apraxia, we were able to really focus on things that would benefit him to get him ready for Pre-K, which he just started! Graham LOVES adventure and a challenge! He is so fun, goofy, and just loves life!” We’re so grateful to be a part of Graham’s transition to school and to watch him flourish because he has the power to communicate. Mr. Michael loves his smile, his sense of imagination, and most of all, his energy! (Maybe it’s finally a match for Mr. Michael’s?) We love watching you grow, Graham! Way to go!

Idriss T.

Idriss is a fun-loving twelve year old who has been in therapy for five years. His caregiver loves that he’s growing so much in his communication. He’s less frustrated, he speaks clearly, and he’s learned to express himself with confidence! Idriss has a great sense of humor as well. He orders his own food now, loves to speak more independently, and we love having him around the clinic. Idriss’s caregiver is so very proud of him and says, “Speech Pathway definitely played a big role in the success of Mr. Idriss’s speech! He is resilient, brilliant, and has the most loving heart!” Miss Kelsey loves getting to work with Idriss each week and get to know his personality. “Idriss is a sweet boy with a spunky personality. You never know what he’s going to say and he never fails to make me laugh. There is never a dull moment in our sessions!” Thank you for the laughs you bring, Idriss!

Social Groups are Coming!

At Speech Pathway, we believe in the magic of social communication and its ability to build lasting relationships. Our specialized social groups are designed to create a nurturing space for children to thrive, connect, and form beautiful friendships. We take immense joy in witnessing the genuine relationships that blossom within our groups. It’s heartwarming to see children bond over shared interests, laughter, and understanding. These connections not only benefit the children but also create a supportive network for families to connect and share experiences. Think you want to be a part of what we have? Sign up TODAY because groups start September 11! See you there!

Spotlight on: Childhood Apraxia of Speech

The Walk for Apraxia is drawing near! We’re excited to join the families of Oklahoma City with Apraxia Kids to celebrate and bring awareness to the families that walk the path of a diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech. The Walk for Apraxia this year will feature free face painting, snacks, walk around magic, a celebration of the Apraxia Stars, and so much more! Apraxia Kids is a national organization that works daily to bring awareness to childhood apraxia of speech, provide continuing education for speech pathologists, ensure ongoing research is performed for treatment methods, and help families navigate a new diagnosis and find resources for their child. Join us at Pat Murphy Park on September 23 from 8:45-11 to celebrate these families in the long journeys they walk toward communication! We’d love to have your support in-person or from afar via donating to our Speech Pathway team. All proceeds go toward Apraxia Kids!

Meet us at the patch!

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are falling, football season is back, and soups are being put in the slow cooker. Join us at Chester’s Party Barn and Farm for a free event with your family! An RSVP is required to attend and this is a patient-only event. Caregivers are welcome, but please only bring those nearest and dearest to your child’s heart. See you on September 26 from 6:30-8:30pm!

What's the deal with the playground?

We’re glad you asked! Our playground was taken apart and is chained together because we’re making significant improvements to the playground area! We’ve leveled the back of the building and will be able to expand our playground substantially on an even level surface. Keep peeking in the back, because as soon as you see fence posts going up, you’ll know that we are close!

Tiny Town Keeps Getting Better!

If you haven’t been to Tiny Town lately, you may not have noticed that Papa Jim’s Pizza and Gelato is officially open! The sensory swings are hung and we’re working to make sure the padding improves safety in the space. We also laid turf for sound absorbance! We love Tiny Town for all types of speech and language goals. Through pretend play, imagination can run wild and we can target language, speech, and social goals throughout the session! Whether it’s pizza, gelato, veterinary medicine, grocery stores, or community helpers that strike your child’s fancy, we’re here for it all and always willing to have a great time. If you’re looking for ways to foster pretend play at home, always offer items that your child has experienced in real life. If your child doesn’t watch someone use tools frequently, tools may not be the best option for them. Examples of pretend play toys for all genders include babies, tool sets, cleaning sets, doctor kits, community helper kits, kitchen sets, fast food trucks, and so much more.

Improvements are always ongoing with Tiny Town, so stay tuned for more updates!

Heads Up, We're Closed!

Have you noted the upcoming clinic closures for the holidays yet? Make sure to mark your calendars and get your reschedules in early!

We’re closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23.

We’re closed for the winter holidays from December 25, 2023 to January 1, 2024.

Attendance Policy Reminder

Just a reminder that Speech Pathway requires 85% attendance each month. We understand things come up, situations arise, etc. When cancellations happen, it is expected that your appointment be rescheduled the following week or the week prior if it is a planned cancellation. Your therapist isn’t available? No problem! All of our speech pathologists are incredible at what they do and our collaboration is second to none. We do a great job of working together to ensure your child’s plan of care is executed to perfection, no matter who you see! Make sure you’re keeping up with reschedules and letting your therapist know if you need to cancel appointments in advance. Following three no-show appointments, your child is unfortunately removed from the recurring schedule for therapy appointments. Attendance with your therapist is definitely an indicator for better progress. We WANT to see your child improve in their communication skills, which is why we have our attendance policy! Thank you for your understanding!
