Individualized Intensives are intensive intervention sessions focused on improving oral-motor planning and/or articulation skills, or functional communication skills. Individualized intensives are offered for 2-3 weeks each session, and participants are required to attend the entirety of the 2 weeks or 3 weeks they choose. Sessions are offered in one hour, two hour, and three hour increments. Sessions will also target behavioral intervention as it pertains to the child’s ability to effectively participate in group activities and comply with instructions as well as improving communication behaviors. Individualized intensives are just that: intensive intervention that is incredibly individualized to what your child needs. Patients will participate in multiple individual sessions per day, as well as group sessions when availability allows. The focus will be to decrease frustration while increasing communication and social skills. Group parent/caregiver training and question/answer sessions will also be provided for carryover of skills within the home program or coordination of services with the child’s private therapists. Sessions will have a minimum of 1:3 adult to child ratio, but most often it is 1:1. Staff may include Speech-Language Pathologists, Speech-Language Pathology Assistants, Registered Behavior Technicians, and student interns. Children generally make marked progress utilizing intensive therapy, and past data has shown that the primary change has been that speech therapy and home programs are more effective throughout the coming year after this intensive intervention and training.
