September 2025- Back to SCHOOL!

Hello September! Back to school is a season of fresh starts and new possibilities—a chance to set goals, discover strengths, and embrace the excitement of learning. Each new year brings opportunities to grow, to meet challenges with courage, and to explore the unknown with curiosity. It’s a reminder that every step forward, no matter how small, opens the door to greater confidence, achievement, and the joy of what’s yet to come.

We’re excited to share with you how we continue to grow as well and we’re excited to continue to help families succeed as we all approach a new year back at school!!

🌟 Welcome to the Team!

We have recently been fortunate to be able to welcome several new faces! Let’s take a moment to celebrate and introduce the newest members of our Speech Pathway Speech Therapy team! We’re excited to share a bit about their backgrounds, experience and passions. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome!

👋Caraline Brune – SLP

  • Joined: July 2025
  • Background: I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders and my Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO. While completing graduate school, I worked as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant gaining specialized experienced in pediatric feeding and language development with AAC. After graduation, I completed my clinical fellowship year in hospital. I am very passionate about helping children build a positive relationship with food, nourish their growing bodies, and communicate to connect with the world around them.
  • Fun Fact: I enjoy anything active from hiking to pilates. Ever heard of a hot girl walk? Those are my favorite!
  • In Their Own Words: “I am super excited to further develop and expand the feeding therapy team here at Speech Pathway!”

👋  Holly Culver –SLP

  • Joined: June 2025
  • Background: I just finished my Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology at OU Health Sciences in May of 2025! While I was working on my undergraduate degree, I was also a registered behavior technician and loved getting to work with kids on the autism spectrum while learning about behavior.
  • Fun Fact: In my free time, I love to get artsy! I love painting, drawing, and doing crafts.
  • In Their Own Words: “I love being an SLP because I get to help children find their voice and gain access to meaningful, functional communication. I am so grateful to be a part of Speech Pathway’s amazing team, and I have felt so supported during my time here!”

👋  Allison Jamrok – SLP

  • Joined: May 2025
  • Background: I was a second grade teacher for four years before going back to graduate school. I graduated this past May!
  • Fun Fact: I have lived in 5 different states (Minnesota, Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, & Oklahoma)
  • In Their Own Words: “My favorite part about being an SLP is getting to build relationships with families and helping kids discover their voice!”

🎉 Closing Note

We’re thrilled to have Allison, Holly, and Caraline on board and can’t wait to see the impact they’ll make as part of our growing team. Stay tuned for next Month’s blog celebrating our amazing new hires to the ABA team at Speech Pathway!

Oklahoma IEP FAQs for Parents

Being educated and engaged in the IEP process is essential to ensuring your child receives the support they need to thrive. When families understand their rights, the goals, and the strategies in place, they can actively collaborate with educators to create the most effective plan. Staying involved not only helps advocate for appropriate services but also strengthens the partnership between home and school, ensuring that the child’s unique strengths and challenges are addressed in meaningful ways.

What is an IEP?
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written plan that explains the special education services and supports your child will receive at school. It is designed just for your child’s needs.

Common Questions Parents Ask

  1. Who can ask for an IEP?
You or your child’s teacher can request an evaluation if you think your child may need special education.
  2. How long does testing take?
Once you sign consent, the school has 45 school days to finish the evaluation.
  3. Who is part of the IEP team?  You (the parent/guardian)
    – Your child’s team
    – A special education teacher
    – A school administrator
    – Specialists who test your child
    – Your child (especially by age 14 for future planning)
  4.  How often is the IEP updated?
At least once a year, but you can ask for a meeting anytime.
  5. Will my child be in special classes all day?
Not always. By law, children should be with peers without disabilities as much as possible, with supports in place.
  6. What services can an IEP include?
Supports may include: speech or occupational therapy, reading or math help, counseling, behavior supports, technology tools, or classroom changes (like extra time or different seating).
  7. What if I don’t agree with the school?
    You can:
     –
    Ask for another independent evaluation
    – Request mediation
    – File a formal complaint or due process hearing
  8. What if we move?
Your child’s new Oklahoma school must provide similar services until a new IEP meeting is held.
  9. What about high school?
By age 14, your child’s IEP will include a transition plan to help prepare for college, work, or independent living.

MAKING FLASHCARDS FUN

Let’s face it, working with flash cards can be tedious, but using them can definitely help you to progress your child’s language and articulation skills! Here are some ideas to make using these tools into games your kids will be excited to play!

🎲 Flash Card Bingo – Make a bingo board with answers; kids cover a square when the flash card matches.

🏃 Flash Card Race – Place cards around the room; call out the word and have your child run to find it.

🎭 Charades with Flash Cards – Act out the word or concept while your child guesses.

🧩 Memory Match – Make pairs of flash cards, flip them face down, and play a memory game.

⏱️ Speed Round – Set a timer for 30 seconds and see how many cards your child can answer correctly.

🐻 Stuffed Animal Teacher – Have your child “teach” the cards to a favorite toy.

🎯 Basket Toss – Answer a card correctly to earn a chance to toss a ball into a basket.

🚗 Flash Card Road Trip – If in the car, hold up a card and have your child shout out the answer before the next landmark (tree, sign, etc.).

🎶 Sing the Card – Turn the flash card answer into a silly song or chant.

🌟 Reward Path – Lay cards out like stepping stones; correct answers let your child move forward on the “path” to a small prize

Attendance Policy Reminder

With school back in swing, we’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of the Speech Pathway Attendance. We acknowledge the efforts that everyone makes to help their child meet their goals- we could not do anything without the support of our families! Thank you!

Attendance/Cancellation Policy Regular attendance is crucial to your child’s progress! Therefore, to better serve our patients and their families, we require everyone to follow our 85% attendance policy and respect our “24 Hour cancellation” policy regarding appointment cancellations and rescheduling. Our attendance policy is as follows: All clients must maintain 85% attendance for all therapy appointments. Three no shows for scheduled appointments results in immediate discharge. Speech Pathway reserves the right to discharge patients who do not maintain 85% attendance or violate the “no show/no call” policy. Speech Pathway understands that unexpected circumstances can never fully be avoided and we are more than willing to work with each of you on a case by case basis to resolve any unexpected scheduling issues that may arise from time to time. Please make sure you notify the clinic when you are unable to keep scheduled appointments.Consistent attendance is one of the most powerful factors in making steady progress toward any goal. Each day of showing up—whether in school, at practice, or in personal growth—creates momentum, builds habits, and moves you closer to success. Missing opportunities can slow progress, but dedication and presence ensure that every small step adds up to meaningful achievement.

“Eighty percent of success is showing up.” —Woody Allen
