Patient Spotlight

We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting a few of our patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing patients below!

Logan T.

Logan is a silly and funny 10 year old who has been in therapy for the past 5 years. When he started he wouldn’t even say β€œHi”, but now he is talking in sentences. He loves to sing and make up songs. Mr. Kirk says: “I love how he is always ready to jump into therapy sessions! He will always have a cute little squishmallow with him and I love watching him work alongside his friends. Logan has come such a long way from when we first started speech together. He’s making so much progress and I couldn’t be more proud of him!”

Waverlee-Rose C.

Waverlee-Rose is a sweet and loving 6 year old who has participated in therapy for 2 years. She has been working on pronouncing sounds such as /d, r, th, y/ and speaking more clearly. She loves gymnastics and doing flips and splits. Miss Katie says: “Waverlee-Rose is an amazing girl who has made fantastic progress with her speech sounds! She loves to be silly and is happy she can tell me all her stories with her clear speech. She is a fun kiddo to work with and I know she will continue to make great strides in her speech-language journey!”

Andrew P.

Andrew is a 10 year old with a big personality who has been in therapy for 4 years. He has demonstrated significant growth in his communication confidence and is increasingly comfortable interacting with individuals outside of his family. He is going to be a YouTube sensation someday! Ms. Chesley says: ”Andrew is an amazing kid who has overcome many obstacles in his journey to improve his speech skills. He is eager to share all the incredible things he loves to talk about, especially Spider-Man. Andrew is like a superhero himself, showing up every day to conquer his speech challenges. It has been so fun to be a part of his journey and to watch him gain confidence along the way. β€œ

Connecting with Community at the Walk

Speech Pathway had an amazing time participating in this year’s AutismOklahoma Walk! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with families, meet members of our community, and celebrate the incredible individuals we have the privilege of serving.

Throughout the event, families enjoyed a morning filled with activities, conversations, and opportunities to connect with local organizations dedicated to supporting children and their families. It was heartwarming to see so many smiles, familiar faces, and new connections being made along the way.

We loved sharing more about Speech Pathway, answering questions, and celebrating alongside everyone who came out to support autism awareness, acceptance, and inclusion. Events like these remind us how meaningful community connections can be and how much we can accomplish when we come together.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, said hello, and helped make the day so special. We are grateful to be part of such a supportive community and look forward to seeing you at our next event!

πŸ‘Ά Oh, Baby! Meet Our Newest Arrivals πŸ’™

Our Speech Pathway family has grown in the sweetest way this quarter as we welcomed three precious baby boys! We are so excited for these families as they begin this wonderful new chapter.

πŸ’™ Miss Callie and her husband, Ben, welcomed Joseph Kent on April 17th at 9:37 AM. Joseph arrived weighing 5 lbs. 13 oz. and measuring 20 inches long. We are so happy for their growing family and know Joseph is already surrounded by so much love. Wishing them countless sweet snuggles, joyful milestones, and treasured memories together!

πŸ’™ Miss Maddie and her husband, Bray, welcomed Archie William on June 28th. Archie arrived weighing 8 lbs. 8 oz. and measuring 21.5 inches long. We couldn’t be happier for their family as they soak up every cuddle, milestone, and unforgettable first with their newest little blessing.

πŸ“… Attendance Matters: Helping Your πŸ“… Child Make the Most of Therapy

Consistency is one of the biggest factors in helping children make meaningful progress in therapy. Each session builds on the last, allowing your child’s therapist to reinforce skills, introduce new concepts, and keep momentum moving forward. Missing appointments can interrupt that progress and make it more difficult for your child to reach their goals.

To provide the highest quality care and ensure appointment availability for all families, Speech Pathway follows an 85% attendance policy along with our 24-hour cancellation policy.

Our attendance policy includes:

  • Patients are expected to maintain at least 85% attendance for all scheduled therapy appointments.
  • Three no-shows for scheduled appointments will result in immediate discharge from services.
  • Speech Pathway reserves the right to discharge patients who do not maintain 85% attendance or who repeatedly violate the no-show/no-call policy.

We understand that life happens and unexpected situations can arise. Illnesses, emergencies, and other unforeseen events are sometimes unavoidable, and our team is always happy to work with families on a case-by-case basis whenever possible. If you’re unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can work with you and potentially offer that appointment time to another family in need.

If you need to cancel, reschedule, or have any questions about your appointments, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You can call our clinic at 405-603-6622 or text us at 813-603-6622. We’re always happy to help!

Thank you for partnering with us and for your commitment to your child’s success. Together, we can help them make the greatest progress possible!

🍎 Back-to-School Scheduling Reminder 🍎

As the new school year approaches, we’d love your help planning our therapy schedules!

If your child is starting school, changing schools, or will need an after-school appointment, please let our office know as soon as possible. Sharing your child’s school schedule early allows us to make every effort to accommodate your preferred therapy time before our after-school schedule fills up.

If your current appointment time will continue to work with your child’s school schedule, no action is needed. However, if you’ll need to make a change, we encourage you to reach out as soon as possible.

To request a schedule change or discuss available appointment times, please call us at 405-603-6622 or text 813-603-6622.

Thank you for helping us make this transition into the school year as smooth as possible. We look forward to another great year of helping your child grow and succeed!

β˜€οΈRecapping Intense Academy & β˜€οΈ Speech Spot Camps

This summer was filled with communication, confidence, creativity, and connection at Speech Pathway! Our team had the opportunity to host multiple incredible camps designed to support children with different communication needs: Intense Academy, our apraxia-focused intensive camp, and Speech Spot Camps, focused on building functional communication skills through fun, engaging activities.

Both camps were built around one important idea: communication happens everywhere! Whether it’s during play, games, conversations, problem-solving, or everyday interactions, every moment creates an opportunity to connect and grow. πŸ’™

πŸ—£οΈ Intense Academy: Building Speech Skills Through Intensive Practice

Intense Academy was created for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and motor speech challenges who benefit from focused, frequent opportunities to practice speech movements and build confidence.

Throughout the week, campers participated in structured speech activities while also enjoying activities that made practice feel fun and meaningful. Each day provided opportunities to work on speech targets, increase communication attempts, and celebrate progress β€” both big and small.

Campers worked on:
✨ Improving consistency of speech sound production
✨ Practicing motor planning for clearer speech
✨ Increasing confidence when using their voice
✨ Producing their name, pet’s name, and/or siblings names
✨ Building friendships with peers who share similar experiences

One of the most rewarding parts of Intense Academy was watching campers encourage one another. Every new syllable structure, successful attempt, and moment of growth was celebrated. Campers built a supportive community where their voices were valued and their communication journey was celebrated. πŸ’™

🎀 Speech Spot Camps: Communication Beyond the Therapy Room

Speech Spot Camps focused on functional communication skills β€” helping children use their communication abilities in meaningful, everyday situations.

Through themed activities, games, crafts, and group experiences, campers practiced skills that naturally come up in daily life, including:

πŸ’¬ Expressing wants and needs
🀝 Taking turns and interacting with peers
🎲 Participating in group activities
πŸ‘‚ Following directions and problem-solving
🌱 Building independence and confidence as communicators

The magic of Speech Spot Camps was seeing communication happen naturally. Whether campers were working together on an activity, sharing ideas during play, or navigating a new challenge, every interaction became an opportunity to practice and grow.

🌟 More Than Just Camp🌟

While skill-building was a major focus, these camps were about so much more than therapy goals. They were about creating a place where children could feel successful, understood, and celebrated.

Our team loved seeing campers step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and discover that communication can be fun. Every smile, conversation, new skill, and moment of independence was a reason to celebrate.

A huge thank you to our campers, families, and team members who made these weeks so special. We are so proud of the growth, confidence, and connections built throughout camp!

Here’s to a summer full of communication wins and many more moments of connection ahead! β˜€οΈπŸ’™

πŸ“š Back-to-School Fun & Activities for πŸ“šHome

The start of a new school year brings so many natural opportunities to support your child’s speech, language, social skills, and feeding independence. From packing lunches to talking about the school day, everyday moments can become powerful practice β€” no extra materials required!

Here are some simple ways to build skills while getting ready for a successful school year:

πŸŽ’ School Prep = Language Practice

Getting ready for school is full of opportunities to build vocabulary, following directions, and problem-solving skills!

Try this:
πŸ—£οΈ Talk through your routine: β€œFirst we put on shoes, then we grab your backpack.”
πŸ“‹ Practice following multi-step directions: β€œFind your folder and put it in your backpack.”
πŸ”Ž Describe items using attributes: β€œThe blue, big backpack has pockets.”
πŸ’¬ Ask questions: β€œWhat do we need for school?” β€œWhere does your lunch go?”

πŸ’‘ Encourage your child to be the β€œteacher” and give YOU directions too! This is a great way to practice expressive language and confidence.

🍎 Lunchbox Practice = Feeding Independence

School meals often require children to be more independent. Practicing at home can help build confidence before the first day!

Try this:
πŸ₯ͺ Practice opening containers, wrappers, and snack bags
πŸ›’ Let your child help choose and pack foods
πŸ₯€ Practice using their school cup, utensils, or lunchbox
⏰ Work on sitting and eating within a realistic mealtime routine

πŸ’‘ Start practicing before school begins so these skills feel familiar and comfortable when they are needed!

πŸ“– Back-to-School Books = Conversation Starters

Books about school are a great way to prepare children for new experiences while building language skills.

Try this:
❓ Ask prediction questions: β€œWhat do you think will happen next?”
😊 Talk about feelings: β€œHow does the character feel?”
🏫 Make connections: β€œHave you ever done that at school?”
πŸ”„ Retell the story using beginning, middle, and end

πŸ’‘ Books create a safe space for children to talk about excitement, worries, and new experiences.

🀝 School Routines = Social Communication Practice

New school years often mean meeting new teachers, classmates, and routines. Practice common social situations through pretend play!

Try this:
πŸ‘‹ Practice greetings: β€œHi, my name is…”
πŸ™‹ Practice asking for help: β€œCan you help me?”
🎲 Role-play making requests: β€œCan I play?” β€œCan I have a turn?”
🧠 Practice problem-solving: β€œWhat can we do if someone has the toy we want?”

πŸ’‘ Pretend play helps children feel more prepared and confident in real-life situations.

πŸ₯• Food Exploration = Confidence at Mealtimes

Back-to-school routines can bring new foods, different environments, and changes in mealtime expectations. Keep food exploration positive and pressure-free!

Try this:
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Include your child in grocery shopping or lunch preparation
πŸ‘€ Explore new foods by looking, smelling, touching, or helping prepare them
πŸ“ Pair new foods with familiar favorites
πŸ’ Talk about food characteristics: β€œThe apple is crunchy and sweet.”

πŸ’‘ Remember: interacting with food is progress! A child does not have to eat a food to begin becoming comfortable with it.

✨ Everyday Moments Build Big Skills

The best learning opportunities often happen during the routines you already have. A few minutes of intentional interaction throughout the day can make a meaningful difference.

Focus on:
🌱 Modeling language instead of testing your child
πŸ’™ Following your child’s interests
πŸŽ‰ Keeping practice fun and pressure-free
πŸ‘ Celebrating all communication attempts and progress

As your child heads back to school, remember that growth happens everywhere β€” at the kitchen table, in the car, during play, and throughout daily routines.

From all of us at Speech Pathway, we hope your family has a wonderful start to the school year filled with confidence, connection, and success! πŸ“šπŸ’™
