Spring 2026

Patient Spotlight

We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting a few of our patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing patients below!

Thomas

Chesley says: “He is an incredibly smart kid, and I’m constantly impressed by how hard he works, even when things feel challenging. We meet through teletherapy, and he’s been tackling a tongue thrust, which takes a lot of patience and persistence. There are moments when it gets frustrating, especially when practicing the same movements repeatedly, but he continues to show up and give it his all. What I love most about him is his determination and kind heart. “

Info: Tom has shown continued motivation and perseverance working on challenging speech skills via tele-therapy. Thomas loves his family, and his hobbies include chess, mathematics and meteorology.

Wimberly

Katie says:”
Wimberly is a sweet girl who loves movement activities! Whether it’s jumping, swinging, spinning, or running, she enjoys being on the move! She has been increasing in her ability to request these activities along with working on her social language while we play. She continues to make progress in her communication and we are so proud of all the progress she has made!

Info: Since joining Speech Pathway, Wimberly has learned to say words such as yellow, no, yeah, mama, and daddy. She has learned to order her own food by selecting pictures off a tablet and is in the process of learning to use the tablet for everyday communication. Wimberly has improved in both speech and in interacting with peers her own age after joining a 2nd child in joint occupational therapy.

Cecelia

Katie says: “Cecelia is an amazing girl who loves to be funny, sassy, and DJ music using her own sound system! She has made so much progress in speech therapy and communicating her wants and needs. Cecelia has a wonderful support network and her family has seen her grow into a spunky teenager. I have no doubt Cecelia will continue to make fantastic strides in her communication!

Info: Cecelia has learned the Touch Chat AAC system over the last few years. She can use it to greet others and to express her wants and needs. Cecelia loves to ride horses, swim, and listen to music.

🦁 A Wildly Wonderful Day at the Zoo 🐾

The excitement was in full swing at our recent zoo event, and what an unforgettable day it was for all who attended!

Families were welcomed into a fun-filled, safari-inspired experience featuring engaging activities, and plenty of opportunities for exploration and play. It was a joy to see everyone immersed in learning and shared experiences in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Beyond the activities, the event offered a special chance for families to slow down and enjoy quality time together while celebrating curiosity and discovery. We loved seeing both familiar faces and new families joining in on the fun.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make our zoo event such a roaring success. Your energy and enthusiasm made the day truly special, and we look forward to many more adventures together! 🐘🌿

💙 Our Growing Speech Pathway Family 💙

Miss Abby and her husband Storme are overjoyed to announce the arrival of their sweet baby boy, Bennett James, who made his debut on March 13th. Weighing in at a healthy 8 pounds 12 ounces and measuring 21.5 inches long, Bennett entered the world and is already making a big impression. This special moment marks the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for their family, filled with love, late-night snuggles, and countless firsts. We are so excited to watch Bennett grow and can’t wait to see all the joy he brings to those around him. 💙

🌈 Get Ready for an Unforgettable 🏕️ Summer at Camp Communicate!

Summer is just around the corner — and so is your child’s opportunity to grow, connect, and communicate at Camp Communicate, the summer speech therapy experience offered by Speech Pathway in Oklahoma City!

Led by expert clinicians, our summer programs are designed to target communication goals while promoting confidence, connection, and—most importantly—FUN. This year, Camp Communicate offers two specialized tiers of programming depending on your child’s needs.

🎈 Speech Spot — Functional Communication Focused
Speech Spot is designed for children working on building functional speech and language skills through a combination of individualized therapy sessions and engaging group activities. This intensive camp provides more support than a typical week of therapy, all within a fun, structured summer camp environment.

Children enrolled in Speech Spot will receive daily individual speech sessions, participate in interactive group activities, and benefit from a 1:1 adult-to-child ratio to ensure personalized support. Parent training opportunities are also included to help carryover skills at home, and a daily snack is provided along with plenty of fun throughout the week.

📅 Session availability is limited:
Session 1 (July 6–10, 2026) — FULL
Session 2 (July 13–17, 2026) — Only 1 spot left

Spots are extremely limited and filling quickly, so families are encouraged to secure their child’s place as soon as possible.

💪 Intense Academy — Intensive, Structured Intervention
Intense Academy is designed for children who need more targeted support in areas such as motor planning (including apraxia of speech), articulation, or phonological development. This structured two-week program is ideal for children approximately ages 3–8 and is focused on meaningful, measurable progress.

Participants will receive two individual therapy sessions per day, along with access to structured behavior support strategies and both small and large group learning opportunities. Families will also participate in caregiver workshops designed to support skill carryover into the home environment. The program is led by licensed Speech-Language Pathologists and trained clinical assistants to ensure high-quality, individualized care.

📅 Session availability:
Session 1 (June 1–12, 2026) — 1 spot remaining
Session 2 (June 15–26, 2026) — 2 spots remaining
Session 3 (July 20–31, 2026) — 2 spots remaining

Availability is limited in order to maintain individualized attention, with Session 2 filling especially quickly.

🌊Speech & Language Fun in the Sun 🌊 Easy Summer Activities for Home

Summer brings so many natural opportunities to support your child’s speech, language, and social skills — no flashcards required! With a little intention, everyday play can become powerful practice. Here are some simple, fun ways to build skills all summer long:

🏖️ Pool Play = Speech Practice
A trip to the pool is full of chances to model sounds and language!

Try this:
• Model fun sound words like “splash,” “kick,” “jump,” “pop”
• Emphasize target sounds (e.g., “ssssplash” for /s/)
• Practice following directions: “Jump in, then grab the noodle!”
• Work on requesting: “Help me,” “My turn,” “More water!”

💡 Keep it playful and repetitive — kids learn best through hearing it over and over in context!

🌳 Backyard Adventures & Spatial Concepts
Outside play is perfect for teaching early language concepts.

Try this:
• Use position words: under, over, next to, behind, in front
• Give directions: “Run around the tree,” “Put the ball under the chair”
• Create mini obstacle courses and talk through each step

💡 Have your child give YOU directions too — great for expressive language!

🍉 Snack Time = Language Time
Summer snacks can build vocabulary and communication.

Try this:
• Offer choices: “Watermelon or grapes?”
• Describe foods: “cold, juicy, crunchy, sweet”
• Practice requesting and commenting
• Work on sequencing: “First wash, then eat”

🎲 Sidewalk Chalk Conversations
Get creative while building language!

Try this:
• Draw and describe pictures together
• Practice WH-questions: “What did you draw?” “Where is it going?”
• Play simple social games like tic-tac-toe (turn-taking, waiting)

👫 Playdates & Social Skills
Summer is a great time to practice interacting with peers in a low-pressure way.

Support your child by modeling:
• Greetings (“Hi!” “Want to play?”)
• Turn-taking and sharing
• Problem-solving (“Let’s take turns,” “You can have it next”)
• Flexible thinking when things don’t go as planned

💡 Stay nearby to gently coach if needed, but let kids practice!

🚗 On-the-Go Language (Errands, Walks, Car Rides)
You don’t have to plan anything extra — just talk!

Try this:
• Narrate what you see (“I see a big red truck!”)
• Ask simple questions
• Play “I Spy”
• Practice categories (“Find something that flies”)

🌟 Keep It Simple & Consistent
The best part? You don’t need special materials or long sessions. Just a few minutes of intentional interaction during daily routines can make a big difference.

Focus on:
• Modeling (not correcting)
• Keeping it fun and pressure-free
• Following your child’s lead
• Celebrating all communication attempts

Speech and language growth doesn’t stop when school is out — and it doesn’t have to feel like work. With a little creativity, summer can be full of connection, communication, and confidence-building moments.
