We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting a few of our patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing patients below!
Moira is an amazing three year old who has been in therapy with us for two years. She’s done an amazing job learning to pace herself with chewing as well as learning to clear her spoon when taking a bite. Miss Stephanie loves having her joyful spirit in therapy; ” I love her spunk, her jokes, and her sass. She is one of the most fun kiddos I’ve had the opportunity to work with., I love walking along this therapy journey with her and watching her grow!” Moira’s mother also notes that she is definitely her own person and does things on her own time, on her own terms, but Miss Stephanie loves that about her! “Moira marches to the beat of her own drum and it makes every session interesting in the BEST way!” We love getting to see you each week, Miss Moira! Way to work hard!
Braden is an awesome seventeen year old who has been in therapy for over two years. He’s come such a long way in that time. He’s better able to pronounce words and put sentences together in a way that everyone can understand his thoughts. His caregiver is proud of the way his vocabulary has broadened, along with his understanding of words, which has helped him tremendously with his peer interactions. Miss Kylie has loved working with Braden through the years and is so proud of his success. “Braden is the coolest guy there is. He rides his bike to sessions and always arrives on time, which is awesome. He’s so fun to have in sessions; challenging his clinicians at any game he picks and has made so much progress toward his goals. He can make anyone laugh and sometimes even teaches us the hip new lingo!” Thanks for keeping us young, Braden!
At ten years old, Bailey has been in therapy for a whole seven years! She’s doing an amazing job with Miss Katie and has made so much progress through the years. Her caregiver has noticed she’s taking time in reading, not skipping words and sounds that she doesn’t know before asking for help, and Bailey is noticing when she makes an error so she can correct herself! “Bailey was a very early talker and has never stopped. She’s a hard working and wants to know everything. She’s smart, beautiful, and brave.” Miss Katie agrees that Bailey is the bee’s knees. “Bailey is a sweet girl who has grown in confidence throughout her time at Speech Pathway! Even when a treatment task is difficult, she demonstrates a lot of perseverance. I can’t wait to see her continued progress!” Way to go, Bailey, on all of your hard work!
We’re excited to announce that social group registration for the spring is up and running! Our groups were almost full this semester, so make sure you run over to our social groups page to check out more information and register!
Thank you to all of our amazing families who came out, despite the cold! We moved trunk-or-treat inside this year and the building made for the perfect roundabout way to get some candy and see our families. A special shout out to Velocity Dance Center for making this year extra special as well!
Did you know that speech sound acquisition is well-researched and all of your child’s sounds should be in by the time they turn 6 years old? Check out the chart below to see what sounds 90% of the population acquire at what age. If you feel like your child would benefit from a visit with a speech pathologist, we offer free screenings!
Hana is a claims specialist who joined our team over the summer. Her day to day enjoys checking how insurance is processing and doing her best to navigate a way for insurers to pay patients’ claims. She works diligently behind the scenes to help our families! Hana has enjoyed observing how the staff opens up to each other through her time here. She’s looking forward to growing in her capabilities throughout the next year. When Hanah is not in the office, you’ll catch her at home, cooking and playing video games with her partner. We’re glad to have you, Hana!
Danielle is a speech pathologist who joined our team just before the school year started. We’re glad to have her after she took a short break from being a speech pathologist to raise her son! She’s grown to love the environment at Speech Pathway, as it resembles a close-knit, family feel as well as how willing all of the clinicians are to give guidance. Danielle loves working in pediatrics because she gets to be a part of each child’s unique story. She loves seeing progress being made and the way a child beams with self-confidence when they master a goal. Danielle knows every child is different and she gets to be a part of watching their personalities develop along with their speech and language. In the next year, she’s excited to finally get her Certificate of Clinical Competence, gain more knowledge on stuttering, and brush up on her American Sign Language. At home, she loves throwing on some cozy PJ’s, playing with her husband and son, scrapbooking, and reading a good book. We’re so excited Danielle chose us to come back to the field! Welcome, Danielle!
Jill joined the team shortly after completing her clinical fellowship with the Oklahoma State Department of Health – Soonerstart (early intervention). She has a passion for working with pediatrics because she loves watching their growth and making connections with them and their families. Jill has been loving Speech Pathway because of how welcoming and supportive everyone is. In the next year, she’s excited to grow as a clinician and continue learning through the process! At home, you can catch Jill reading, spending time with her dog, working out, or spending time with her family. We’re excited to be your next step, Jill! Welcome to the team!
Heidi is a speech-language pathology assistant who joined our team recently. She loves that Speech Pathway has an amazing community outreach program and that everyone here loves their kids and wants them to succeed. Heidi enjoys pediatrics because their outlook on life is “absolutely precious” and you never know what you’re going to hear from them. In the next year, Heidi is excited to make sweet connections with patients, form new co-worker relationships, and continue her professional growth! When she clocks out, you’ll find Heidi playing with her two boys (they’re 7 and 4.5 years old), making a Target run, or watching shows on Bravo. We love having Heidi around the office!
When you think about a loved one with challenging behaviors, do you feel like you’ve run out of options to help? By participating in our Safety-Care® training, you’ll not only be better equipped to handle challenging moments, but you’ll also create a safer and more inclusive environment for your family. We’d love everyone to join us for this special training, not just those in our Speech Pathway family. Given training, knowledge, and skills, we can help reduce the risk and ensure the safety of our family members, especially those who may have special needs or challenging behaviors. It’s okay to need support. Let us give you some.
Whether you’re ready or not, here come the holidays! Make sure you note our clinic closures. If you’re preparing to travel, reschedule your sessions before you leave so we can make sure to get them in and hit the ground running when we get back. As a reminder, we do require 85% attendance for all of our patients, so ensure you’re rescheduling those sessions in enough time to get them in with your clinician or another one of our amazing clinicians!
