Month in Review

October 2022

Patient Spotlight

We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who have long journeys that require incredibly hard work from their entire family and we want to start recognizing them for the effort they put in daily! Each month we’ll be highlighting up to 5 patients who have shown so much improvement throughout their marathon in speech therapy. See our amazing October patients below!

Spotlight on: AAC Awarness Month

October was AAC awareness month! We have so many patients at Speech Pathway who take advantage of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC)  to express their wants, needs, feelings, and emotions. There is no one too young or too old to access the power of communication. We love getting the opportunity to help a child find their voice, whether that be verbally or through the use of a communication device. A device can be used to help a child find their voice verbally or their device can be their voice long-term. AAC devices range from iPad apps to dedicated devices to switches to eye-tracking devices. Where there’s a will to communicate, we can help you find a way. Although some devices are utilized by children long-term, some devices are only necessary to help a child understand the power of their voice. If you feel like your child may benefit from AAC, talk with your clinician about the possibility of an evaluation! We’re so thankful for all of the families that allowed us to share their children and their devices in order to increase visibility of AAC in the world!

Spotlight: Feeding Therapy

Did you know that Speech Pathway offers feeding therapy? It’s true! Our team of Taste Buds helps our Taste Buddies improve their oral-motor skills to eat a variety of foods that can better meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Therapy focuses on developmentally-appropriate chewing and swallowing skills to help a child safely and happily participate in family mealtimes. Our team loves incorporating fun, play-based interventions that include foods served at family mealtimes, friends’ birthday parties, school lunches, and holiday celebrations. See below for signs your child may need a feeding evaluation. Let us help you take the stress out of mealtimes.
